I’ve encouraged my readers and clients to start adding video to their website to draw traffic, provide value and create connections. In addition to adding to your site, creating a YouTube page is worth your time. It makes sense for the storage and ability to link from YouTube alone, but YouTube offers great marketing and networking capabilities as well. Harvard Business Publishing is a great sample of a larger entity who has created a brand on YouTube. A recent LA conference on new media offered a course along the lines of “How to Make Money with ‘How To’ Videos”. If you aren’t educating your market, you are missing out.
You can customize your YouTube page to make it more professional by going to Edit Your Channel. You can choose what will show up on your page, add an image of yourself or a logo, and customize the colors of background and text. If you work with a graphic designer, they can make it even more robust and tailored (or you can search for “customize YouTube channel on…YouTube!). Make sure your profile is completely filled out. The more your customers know about you (within reason), they more they care about your business.
Add links on your website to your various YouTube videos or channel, have your web designer put them directly on your site (or try doing this yourself with the “embed code” found on every video), and add a link to your YouTube channel to your email signature. All of these steps create value for your customer and create a reason for them to seek you out in the future!

Build a business, not a job – check out my website to see how!
